Store Update: During the lockdown for Coronavirus we are open for business with modified store hours-Open Monday thru Friday 10:00-4:00; Saturday 10:00-2:00. We are following the “social distancing” procedure by letting only one customer in at time, we are also doing curb side delivery and limited home deliveries. Please call 240-2786.

Healthy Happenings: Immunity in the time of Coronavirus
If you are like me you are very concerned about the situation we are faced with right now. We have heard that the most affected individuals have one or more other health challenges. There is not time better time to boost up your own body’s defenses.

I like to start with lifestyle modification and then add immune stimulating supplements. Our situation right now is that many of the supplements that are great for the immune system have been and are still out of stock. We are doing the best we can to carry quality immune supplements. Some of the vitamins and minerals can be found in organic fruits, vegetables and fermented foods.

Know that our thoughts and prayers go out you and your family. We can thrive even as we face the unknown and come out the other end much healthier.

1. Lifestyle Modifications:
 Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
 Stay well hydrated, drink filtered, spring water, herbal teas, coconut water and bone broth.
 Spend as much time as possible in nature.
 Eat a lot of colorful fruits and vegetables daily.
 Avoid simple sugars and processed grain products.
 Get moderate amount of exercise daily.
 Get an adequate amount of sleep. The right amount of sleep increases the number of white blood cells.
 Minimize stress. I know that sounds like a daunting task right now, but we now understand that excessive stress weakens the immune system.

2. Immune-boosting supplements:
 Olive Leaf Extract has been studied for its antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
 Wormwood also knows Artemisia a German study revealed that wormwood has antimicrobial activities against the common viruses, including Epstein-Barr. It also helps; balance the gut microbiome.
 Medicinal mushrooms like chaga, shiitake, turkey tail, reishi, maitake, lion’s mane, and cordyceps all boost the immune system. We have combination products and organic powdered mushrooms.
 Vitamin C: Daily consumption of vitamin C is necessary to keep the immune system working well. I prefer Ascorbyl Palmitate which is a fat-soluble vitamin or buffered C.
 Vitamin D: Adequate amounts of vitamin D in the system has been shown to improve the immune system.
 Elderberry syrup can be taken daily to fight infections
 Probiotics: Quality probiotics support the microbiome in the intestines. At least 70% of our immune systems in located in the intestines. Probiotics from whole fermented foods are a great addition to a quality probiotic supplement.

Home Remedies: Sanitizing spray: We have been making our own spray with essential oils because of the shortages.


1 cup of rubbing alcohol or vodka
15 drops of rosemary oil 15 drops eucalyptus oil
25 drops of orange oil 15 drops of lavender /tea tree oil
Mix together in a glass jar and put into a spray bottle.

 

Words to Live By: In the book of Ephesians Paul lists the fruits of the Spirit in detail: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Gal. 5:22-23) We need to keep these traits in mind while we navigate our new reality.

Healthy Recipe: Low Sugar Cheese Cake Cookies
1/3 cup Sucunat (whole cane sugar) 8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup roasted or crispy walnuts, chopped ¼ cup Xylitol
¾ cup sprouted or whole spelt flour 1 large egg
¼ cup ground flax 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together sucunat, walnuts, and flour. Mix in butter until crumbly.
Reserve ¾ cup of the crumbs. Place remainder in an 8-inch square baking pan and press down firmly. Bake 13-15 minutes until set. Cool.
Beat cream cheese and xylitol in a small bowl, until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Pour on baked crust. Top with reserved crumbs. Bake 25 minutes or until set. Chill before serving.
